A native of Chicago, Adam Steinberg currently teaches English language and literature at an international school in Berlin, Germany. Long before teaching, he toiled in Seattle as a producer of kids' educational CD-ROMs for Edmark (at one point an IBM company) before following his songwriting craft to New York, where he earned an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He also studied for two years with Chicago's New Tuners Musical Theatre, and spent several years as a member of New York City's BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop.

Besides winning several state and regional awards for acting back in the day, Adam has performed his songs at events such as the Seattle International Folklife Festival and Chicago's Earth Day Festival.

Readings of his work in New York include Farmer Eli's Vacation, a one-act adaptation of 1895 story by Alice Brown (collaborating with composer Ben Cohn); The Dance of Salome, a full-length theatrical rock concert (collaborator: James Marler); and The Big Kahuna, a one-act "moreality play" (collaborator: Brad Aspel). In Chicago, the short musical America's Sweetheart was performed in a festival at the Theater Building (collaborators Chris Staton and Jim Stevens), and his song Let the Buyer Beware was featured in a songwriting showcase at that venue. Other lyrics in use include Who's That Bear (theme song for an animated pilot, Bear #13).

More recent musical projects on various burners include the revision and expansion of The Big Kahuna; Connor's Wor, examining the common man's role in an extraordinary universe; and The Love Pump, a romantic non-musical comedy-drama.

His poem "Sweat of My Brow" was read on National Public Radio's The Next Big Thing in 2002, and he co-founded a creative team that had proposals for two children's television programs, Willa Wonders and Sounds Like Willa, under serious consideration at Disney and Noggin (Nickelodeon) in 2003-04.

• copy editor for Kaplan K12 and a variety of other clients (international) for technical and non-technical materials and publications.

After a stint teaching ESL fo F.E.G.S., he trained as a STARRR Cohort, gained his NYC OPD license (as a substitute teacher), and taught a literacy-through-drama curriculum to K-4 students at CS 47 and PS 48 in the South Bronx. He then worked as a teaching artist for youth with three arts-in-education organizations.

In 2006, he packed up his educational experience and moved with his family to Berlin, Germany, where he continued his education while teaching English language and literature at the Berlin Brandenburg International School. He is now a certified teacher in the United States through a program at the College of New Jersey.

Adam is married to the wonderful Stephanie and has two sons, E. 7/13/2005) and J. (6/10/2007).
