Colorful carnival tent
Away, Away

Dawned a green spring morning the cart rattled into town,

Peeling paint in carnival colors, like he'd followed the rainbow down.

He set up shop in the middle of the square,

And called his pitch to the empty morning air.

There gathered a curious crowd to hear the old quack sing his song;

The talk in every barbershop, but it didn't last for long . . .

Soon his voice was lost amid the city noise,

`Till he was even overlooked by little girls and boys!

Away, away old man, with your Doctor Dreeman's Miracle `Lixir of Love!

Away, away old man, with your Doctor Dreeman's Miracle `Lixir of Love!

Away, away old man, with your Doctor Dreeman's Miracle `Lixir of Love!

Away, away!

. . . And the flowers bloomed like fireworks round the square.

I was twenty-one and my love belonged to a girl with amber eyes,

But her heart was a mystery--on this she'd not advise . . .

I asked her down to the center of town at three,

Then searched all day for words to say so she'd come and marry me.

-refrain-

Will she yield up her hand, or will desire be cheated?

And where's that crackpot's wagon when he's needed?!

The cart is gone; no trace remains, save flakes of red and blue,

So I pluck a rose beside me as my love comes into view . . .

I tumble out my message, humbly spoke from bended knee,

Then hold aloft the rose to show my true sincerity.

She breathes the scent, then, to my joy, consent shines from her face--

But what is this I read upon the stem as we embrace?

Away, away, the flower read, "Dr. Dreeman's Miracle `Lixir of Love"

Away, away, the flower read, "Dr. Dreeman's Miracle `Lixir of Love"

Away, away, the flower read, "Dr. Dreeman's Miracle `Lixir of Love"

Away, away!

...And the fireworks bloomed like flowers when I wed my true love there.
