Between the Moon
(and a Longing Heart)
clip
Nobody told us love would come like gentle rain,
But who could have known the storms we had in store?
The winds that joined our hands soon dropped us like a hurricane,
Each with a different ocean breathing by our door.
At first, nothing stood between us save three thousand miles
And we thought our bond as boundless as the skies...
But as the measured hours made pleasures brief as Cheshire smiles,
Our times together seemed a series of good-byes.
Between the moon and a longing heart,
There's a whole lot of emptiness,
A whole lot of emptiness...
And all the stars fading from the sky,
Growing ever further apart—
No further than the moon and a longing heart.
When a voice on the phone must hold me when my spirit sways,
And a phantom's the stand-in for my one desire,
I feel the distance like a chasm filling up with days,
And fear the faith and patience this road will require.
-refrain-
Oh, some say love is
The shortest line between two constant hearts,
But you and I have seen:
Sacrifices
And doubts that strike as better sense departs
Lie waiting in-between.
I covet the light the sun ignites inside your eyes,
I envy the moonbeam strewn across your bed…
It does no good to curse the winds that forced this compromise,
But I can watch and pray
For a diamond day
When we share the way ahead.
Between the moon and a longing heart,
There's a whole lot of emptiness,
A whole lot of emptiness...
And all the stars fleeing from the sky,
Growing ever further apart—
No further than the moon and a longing heart.
